We are Dennis the Emu and his human companion, Billie Mitchell. Based in beautiful Colorado Springs, Colorado, our absolute favorite pastime is educating people of all ages about ratites (flightless birds) while exploring our city's most iconic spots.

You can frequently spot us a strolling through the stunning landscapes of Garden of the Gods, the historic streets of Manitou Springs, Historical Downtown, and charming Old Colorado City.

We donate our time visiting local classrooms, senior centers, hospices, fundraising events and more. 

We are on a mission to spread community joy, sunshine, & education everywhere we go. After all, nothing brightens a day quite like the surprised look on someone's face when a 100-pound emu casually walks past them on a leash.

Meet Dennis, a fully grown emu with a heart of absolute gold! 

My human calls me cuddly, sweet, and wonderfully silly. Because I grew up alongside dogs, I’m incredibly social and love making new friends.

My absolute favorite thing? Long walks and Big adventures! 

I've even gone viral on social media. 

Visitors from all over the globe have snapped my photo at iconic spots like Denver, Colorado Springs and Cripple Creek. But no matter how famous I get, I still stay humble. 

Before every single walk, my mom whispers in my ear: 

'You are the most handsome bird in the world, lets go make someone happy'

Long before Dennis became Dennisaurus-Rex, Billie knew she wanted an emu. Why? She was inspired by the incredible parenting dedication of the species, noting that the Male Emu is the one who sits on the eggs, hatches them, and raises the babies.   

Dennis says:

My Mom adopted me to help guard her ducks and chickens from the hawks and foxes. But I quickly became her best friend and followed her everywhere. We started going on walks together and my Mom saw how happy it made me to get out of the pen and explore the world, so she lets me keep doing it, and that makes me happy!
